Our Story
Hey! I’m Tim Biondollo, and I am the man behind Phoenix Board Company. I’m here to tell you the story of how this board company came to be, and so that means I have to share some of my story because my story is what inspired me to start Phoenix Board Co.
Part of why I started this company is because longboarding is just so much more to me than just my business, it has been my lifelong passion.
Growing up in a very poor family with a single mom, I often found myself feeling stuck, and lost
Then one fateful day a strange homeless man gave me my first skateboard.
And I have been riding ever since. Riding that board gave me a sense of freedom, and hope that I had never really experienced before. It gave me an escape from the harsh realities of living in poverty. I rode that board everywhere, and it was with me through many hardships both as a form reliable transportation, and also as a way to escape the harsh reality of things like going hungry, or living in a seedy motel with no idea where I would sleep tomorrow.
Then later as I entered adulthood, Things didn’t get much better for me.
I found myself stuck in the cycles of addiction and was still living in poverty.
I struggled a great deal just to survive. Every time I would start getting my life together I eventually slipped back into my addiction.
— In 2017, I overcame decades of addiction and began to rebuild the foundation of my life.
It wasn’t long after that, that I made the decision to do something that I was passionate about. Naturally since skating had been such a crucial turning point in my life, I wanted to find a way to give people those same feelings of freedom and hope that skating had given me. Because more than once having that escape from the harshness of my reality probably saved my life. Shortly after that I decided that I wanted to recycle old boards into new boards, and the name of the company just clicked.
and so in late 2017 Phoenix Board Company was born
I wanted to give discarded longboards a new life, just like my skateboard had once upon a time given me hope.
Like a Phoenix they would rise from the ashes, just like I did, and by sharing my story I wanted show others that they too could overcome whatever they were facing, and rise up from the ashes.
I walked out of my job the day after I sold my first recycled longboard,
and I started Phoenix Board Company in my driveway that day with nothing but some used longboards, a bit of sandpaper, and the message that I founded Phoenix Board Co. to spread to others: “Rise from the ashes”
Fast forward to now —I still skate daily to get where I’m going because it still gives me that same feeling of freedom and hope, and thanks to the support of my local community, many of my skates are to my workshop to create more longboards for amazing people like you. People who love that feeling of freedom that comes with riding a longboard. So I have been working diligently ever since to share that feeling, and also the message of rising up with as many people as possible.
That first skateboard gifted to me by a homeless man so many years ago has allowed me to rise from the ashes of poverty and addiction, and empowered me to chase my dreams, and I want to share that feeling to empower others.
So that is the story of how Phoenix Board Company started, and I’m sharing this with you in hopes that my story helps inspire someone out there that they can also “rise up from the ashes”
